1. Enjoy the Picture Gallery
Our historic Picture Gallery boasts one of the finest private collections of Victorian art the country has to offer and includes some of the 19th century’s most iconic works of art. Open to the public every Wednesday during term time from 10am – 3pm art lovers will enjoy the ornately framed famous works of art from prestigious names such as William Powell Frith, Edwin Henry Landseer, John Everett Millais and many more.
2. Stay overnight at The Hub
Our guest house has a number of comfortable four and five star campus-rated bed and breakfast guest rooms which are available all year round. These rooms offer you the choice of single rooms, doubles, executive doubles and an adapted room. Accommodation is provided over 5 floors, with lift access up to the third floor. All rooms have en-suite facilities and are equipped with televisions and tea and coffee making facilities and breakfast is provided in the ground floor coffee shop.
3. Take a stroll in the arboretum
Tucked away on north of the A30, the Arboretum comprises an interesting and significant collection of trees, planted during the 1960s and 1970s.
The Arboretum is noted on the Tree Register as “A unique record of notable and ancient trees in Britain and Ireland” and as one of the notable tree collections in Surrey. The collection comprises some more unusual, interesting and rare trees including: an American Button wood, Simon’s Poplar, Cork oak, American White Oak and a collection of Southern Beech. Visit during May to see the impressive flowers of the Indian Horse Chestnut while during autumn colourful leaf displays of the Maple collection can be enjoyed. The Arboretum can be accessed by the memorial benches at Sutherland House.
4. Visit our weekly fruit and vegetable market
Every Tuesday, there is a hubbub of activity in the Student’s Union building, located in the centre of the Campus. The extremely popular market sells fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, cakes and Chinese goods.
5. Sample some delicious street food
Offering something different every day from Monday – Thursday, our street food vendors can be found in between The Founder’s and Windsor Buildings. Catering for all tastes, there are a range of street food options including Indian, Lebanese and Thai. The atmosphere around the carts is always buzzing, with background music adding to the experience and chefs cooking in front of the customer, creating an altogether sociable atmosphere.
