The secret to having a stress-free reception for both your guests with young children and for you when having children at weddings, is to be prepared and provide lots of child-friendly fun. We’ve come up with a list of 5 things you could consider to entertain children at your wedding, because a happy bunch of kids will make life so much easier for you on your special day.
1. Outdoor games
If you’re planning a summer wedding and are having your reception in a venue which has a garden or decent outside area, why not provide some outdoor games to keep the kids entertained? Fun lawn games such as croquet, hopscotch, Twister and outdoor Jenga will keep them occupied for hours and skipping ropes and hula hoops are also great low cost options.
2. Indoor games
If the weather is not on your side, why not set up an area full of board games or jigsaws? Favourites such as Monopoly, Dominoes and straight forward playing cards will keep them busy. It’s also a great option for the older kids on the guest list.
3. Kids table
If there are a number of children of a similar age attending (and if they are old enough for it), then make it more enjoyable for them by seating them all together on one table at the reception and let them have their own fun over dinner.
4. A movie room
Kids are never happier than when they are sat in front of the TV, so you are on to a winner if you can set up a quiet area for a film. You could even provide popcorn! This is also a great idea for wind down time later in the evening when younger guests are likely to be getting tired.
5. Personalised goody bags
Fill up goody bags for each of your little guests with age-appropriate treats such as colouring and activity books, glow sticks, bubbles and snacks. These don’t have to cost a bomb – you can find lots of great inexpensive bits and pieces in most high street shops.
